James and Giles was founded in 2006 by Giles Sutton, a Sound Technology graduate of Paul McCartney’s prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). Giles began by designing and installing recording studios and live sound facilities. This experience gave him a strong grounding in larger complex projects which required plenty of innovative thinking.
Two years later, we joined up with industry association CEDIA and our first major project – an apartment in Clerkenwell – received a number of prestigious awards, including ‘Best Integrated Home’. Several international projects followed, including a large royal family residence in Madrid, which at the time of installation, was the largest Control4 installation in Europe.
We also began to grow our commercial portfolio in 2010 with our first boutique hotel installation as well as the headquarters of a global market reserach company. A couple of years later we moved into a dedicated studio and demonstration facility in the design hub of Clerkenwell, London. Our is now open to both clients and architects offering an opportunity to view, interact and play with the technology on offer.
We continue to win awards for our design and installations, including ‘Best Whole Home Installation Over £60k’ at the 2012 European Control4 Awards and the ‘Most Innovative Use of Control4’ the following year. We are the first company outside of the US to win a prestigious Electronic House award. The CEDIA Awards also awarded us in their ‘Best Integrated Home under £100k’ in 2014 for our energy-efficient
Giles now also sits as an industry leader as Chairman of the CEDIA Board of Directors representing the industry internationally. He regularly presents at events and trains architects and other industry professionals in the growing field of smart home technology.
