This new build development allows the centralisation of certain specialist services that are currently spread across various sites. The project is a 30, 000m2, 3-storey development comprising of main Accident & Emergency services, Theatres, Critical Care and Maternity.
DSSR were part of the design team for this new build, carrying out the role of M&E services design, sustainability appraisals and thermal modelling from conception through to completion. The building incorporates the use of passive chilled beams within patient bedrooms and Building Information Modelling (BIM) being used on the project to ensure full co-ordination between all design team members.
This state-of-the art hospital includes sustainable M&E design factors such as biomass boiler and combined heating and power to reduce energy consumption. The geometric shape of the building made the design of the services distribution more challenging and with the internal plantroom at ground level this posed more challenges to the Team, but working on such a unique design project has been very rewarding.
Energy & Carbon Emissions are a very big factor for the project and DSSR carried out various options in order to reduce the energy and carbon, whilst maximising the availability of FITs and ROCs.
