Absolutely! It can treat hyperopia (or long-sightedness as commonly called). This condition happens when the eyes are too weak to focus. The consequence of this is the ability to see distant objects than those close by. Using our top-rated laser tech, many cases of hyperopia have been successfully treated. And results have been impressive.
Of course, yes. A person is said to have myopia (short-sightedness) when the eyes' power of focus is very strong. In this case, the patient can see nearby objects clearer than those far away. From childhood through to teenage years, this condition develops. A quarter of the population is even experiencing it. But laser eye surgery for myopia is straightforward and effective.
Sure. Astigmatism is an eye problem that occurs when there is an irregular shape of the eye. Here, the eye's focus is partial, but for all distances, the vision is blurred. At Optimal Vision, both your prescription correction and treatment of astigmatism can be done simultaneously. The good news is that this will not incur any additional charge as other companies do.
This treatment is suitable for many patients, but this surgery is more appropriate for persons below the age of 45. There are cases that you may not be considered eligible for this surgery. For instance, pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers are not good candidates for this surgery because their hormones fluctuate and impact vision.
For patients below the age of 35 who have long-sightedness, we do not offer them this treatment. The reason is that we are not certain of an effective, long-lasting outcome because of eye changes associated with age.
Certain different conditions exist which may not be fixed by laser eye surgery. Should your reading glasses prescription be +1, +1.5, or +2, then monovision laser eye surgery may be good for you. But, if your eligibility is hanging in the balance because you have hyperopia, thin corneas, or a high prescription, the chances are that you will get lens surgery. There are several lens treatment options at our clinic. Consult our doctor for more details.
But should it be that due to your prescription, LASIK or LASEK laser eye surgery is not recommended for you, other options like Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) or Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL) will do. Serious cases of astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia are treated with these implantable lenses.
An artificial lens is installed in front of your natural eye lens to improve vision in this treatment. It is a procedure that can be reversed (the lens can be removed from your eyes). This correction is recommended for persons below the age of 40 that do not need reading glasses. With a contact lens, you will be able to see better.
Like what happens during cataract surgery, where the natural lens is taken out and replaced with another, this procedure is no different. It is also described as lens replacement surgery and typically ideal for patients who are older than 40 years. With this treatment, reading glasses may not be needed.
Although there is a need for confirmation during a consultation, the following medical issues may not allow you to receive the surgery:
This treatment may not be accessible should you be experiencing:
Since there is no guarantee of results, we may not be able to treat patients who find it very hard to get correctional glasses. The same applies to persons having an obsessive nature or people going through acute depression.

Note: √ treatable prescription -? Kindly see us for a consultation to determine your eligibility. Patients above 35 years and having long-sight are treated here.
Should your reading glass prescription be +1, +1.5, or +2, monovision laser eye surgery may be a good treatment for you.
Laser eye surgery is not recommended for patients above 35 years with long-sightedness since we cannot guarantee an effective, long-lasting outcome because of eye changes associated with age. Should you not be eligible because you have thin corneas, a high prescription, or long-sighted, the chances are that lens surgery may be recommended. There are various lens treatment options available at our clinic. You can consult our team to know more.
How to interpret your prescription
A lenses or glasses prescription is typically denoted as sets of numbers in boxes. See a good example below:
SPH
CYL
AXIS
OD
-4.50D
-0.25D
180
OS
-3.75D
-0.50D
90
OD
This is an acronym for oculus dextrum. It means the readings are for the right eye.
OS
This means oculus sinistrum. It means the readings are for the left eye.
SPH
This stands for Sphere. The box shows how much of a long-sight or short-sight you have.
Should you have myopia (short-sightedness), the SPH box's value will carry a preceding minus (-) sign.
Should you have hyperopia (long-sightedness), the SPH box's value will carry a preceding plus (+) sign.
D, CYL, and AXIS
The "D" represents dioptres - the standard unit of measurement used. Should the recorded SPH value be between 0 and 3.0D, your prescription is described as mild. If the reading is between 3.0 to 6.0D, your prescription is moderate. A high prescription has an SPH value of 6.0D and above.
CYL stands for Cylinder. This box indicates how strong astigmatism is. If you have this eye problem, the eye's shape will not be a perfect sphere; it will resemble a rugby ball. Astigmatism may be a plus (+) or minus (-), and its unit of measurement is also dioptres.
The orientation of the cylinder is indicated in the AXIS box. It spans from 0 to 180 degrees. Here at Optimal Vision, the Sphere and Cylinder is summer up and the value used to ascertain treatment eligibility. For instance, a prescription of -1.50 Cyl and -3.00 Sph gives -4.50.
Certain prescription also carries additional information like VA, Near VA, and Rdg add.
VA
This is an acronym for visual acuity. This shows the standard of vision per eye when fixed and is sometimes presented as a fraction. It is the origin of the expression "20/20 vision". This term means that a person can have a clear view of an object at a distance of 20 feet, just like someone with healthy eyes would see things 20 feet away.
Should you have a 20/40 vision, it means that what you will see 20 feet away, another person with healthy eyesight will see it 40 feet away.
VA values can also be converted to decimal. So 20/20 becomes 1.0, and 20/40 becomes 0.5.
A Snellen chart containing different letters that reduce in size as you read further down the chart is typically used to measure VA. If you can read the bottom part of the chart, it means your visual acuity is good.
Near VA
This term describes the smallest size of print that can be read using a prescription. This is typically written as Nx, where x stands for a number representing the size of the print. In the Near VA series, the N5 is typically the smallest sized print, while the N8 is about regular newsprint size.
Rdg add
This stands for reading addition. It signifies the extra positive power required to help the focusing effect of the eyes for close work. Only patients above the age bracket of 40 to 45 need this because the ability to focus reduces as we grow older - a condition known as presbyopia. Should the specialist state a reading addition, it implies that you need different prescriptions for both reading glasses and for seeing objects far away.
